The Romar-Abrado Packer Management System™ (PMS™) helps clients avoid accidental contamination of the environment by ensuring prevention at source, through the provision of constant, proactive monitoring of slip joint sealing integrity.

Intelligently monitoring the seal actuating pressure in the slip joint packer unit, the Romar-Abrado PMS™ detects any unusual pressure fluctuations indicative of packer wear or imminent seal integrity failure and automatically energises a backup packer, sealing the system and avoiding any accidental discharge to the marine environment.

Environmental best practice

The loss of well fluid and hydrocarbons past the primary sealing element of the marine riser slip joint has been a recurring source of marine environment pollution by the oil and gas industry for the last 50 years.

‘Intelligent’ monitoring

Programable Logic Controllers allow configurable ‘trip’ points to be set. ‘Differential Tracking’ modes adjust ‘trip’ points automatically. Data Logger functionality within the PLC stores >1,000 on-site log events.

Fully automated system

Automatically inflates backup packer on sensing primary pressure drop. Also fully automated in case of power or pressure supply failure (backup packer activated and upper packer pressure closed in).

Easy retrofit to all slip joints

Designed for easy retrofit to existing packer control systems. Self-contained cabinet with alarm and indicator stations situated remotely. Operates with air or hydraulic systems, or a combination of both.

Immediate automated response

Solenoid valves activate within milliseconds of alarm being triggered. Visual and audible pneumatic and/or electrical status alarms. Alarms can be installed locally and remotely and can automatically react to the rig divert system.

Self diagnostic monitoring

More than 40 diagnostic alarm events ranging from ‘Primary packer pressure failure’ to low current solenoid alarms and PLC reboot events. Thermostat combined with anti-condensation heater situated within control panel.
