Nine thousand miles away in Australia, you can find ROMAR’s products being utilised by several operators, and that’s thanks to our international sales consultant, Roy Skene.

Roy has been supporting our team to build a presence down under since 2019. Originally from Fettercairn in Aberdeenshire, Roy has been living and working in Australia for 15 years. His knowledge of its market has helped ROMAR to distribute its innovative technology across the region. We recently caught up with Roy, who explains how his knowledge of both the UK and Australian market supports ROMAR to enjoy a presence across Australia.

“It feels like yesterday that I packed my bags and waved goodbye to a cloudy Aberdeenshire and hello the Australian sun. It’s a real full-circle moment to be supporting an Aberdonian company while living down under; it’s my own little slice of home.

“I’ve worked in the oil and gas sector for most of my life, and my career has taken me around the world. From Angola to Singapore and now Australia, I thoroughly enjoy embracing new cultures and exploring what they have to offer. I’ve been working with ROMAR International for two years, and while I might be based on the other side of the world, I’ve always been made to feel like part of the wider team.

“My role involves seeking opportunities on behalf of ROMAR, liaising with customers across the country and educating the market about ROMAR’s phenomenal technology. In addition, I’m on hand to support the UK team from enquiry to product installation and oversee all projects in the region. 

“It can be difficult for businesses to establish a genuine presence overseas without dedicating a specific resource to promote their offering. It’s great to see that ROMAR has shown true commitment to its customers by ensuring the right people are based in the right places at the right time. Potential customers appreciate the chance to build authentic relationships, which can be hard to achieve via online platforms.

“I look forward to continually developing ROMAR’s presence and hope to broaden my reach beyond Australia into the Southeast Asian market in the near future. ROMAR might be a small business, but it certainly has an extensive footprint. I enjoy being part of an organisation that not only cultivates great technology but great people too.”
