Supporting the Talent of the Future

Supporting the Talent of the Future

As all experienced engineers and technicians know, finding your feet in the oil and gas industry can be challenging. With the field becoming more competitive, gaining experience and building a portfolio of expertise is vital.

ROMAR is passionate about supporting the young talent of the future and offering opportunities to help those at the start of their journey. In May, we were delighted to welcome Matthew MacKenzie to our team on a three-month work experience placement.

Matthew was previously a 5th year pupil at local secondary school Ellon Academy and will be continuing his learning through the Electrician course at North East Scotland College in August. Recognising the importance of gaining experience, Matthew has come on board to assist our workshop team and gain skills and knowledge to support his future development.

Getting well and truly stuck in, Matthew will be working closely with ROMAR’s Senior Technician Ross to rewire our brand-new workshop facility ready for its official opening in Autumn. This will provide Matthew with an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a practical environment.

We caught up with Matthew at the beginning of his placement, and he said: “Everyone at ROMAR has been really nice and welcoming. I’m looking forward to learning more and gaining some experience before starting college in August. This opportunity will help me when I take on other internships throughout my studies in the future.”

Welcome to the ROMAR team Matthew, it’s great to have you!
